British-born physicist Freeman Dyson has revealed three “heresies”, two of which challenge the current scientific orthodoxy that anthropogenic carbon causes climate change.
“The fuss about global warming is grossly exaggerated,” writes Dyson in his new book Many Colored Glass: Reflections on the Place of Life in the Universe, published on Wednesday.
He pours scorn on “the holy brotherhood of climate model experts and the crowd of deluded citizens who believe the numbers predicted by the computer models”.
“I have studied the climate models and I know what they can do. The models solve the equations of fluid dynamics, and they do a very good job of describing the fluid motions of the atmosphere and the oceans. They do a very poor job of describing the clouds, the dust, the chemistry, and the biology of fields and farms and forests,” writes Dyson.
Biomass holds the key to carbon, he writes – leaving us to infer that he thinks the human contribution is negligible. Overall, Dyson issues a plea for more scientific research into the behaviour of the planet’s biomass.
“Many of the basic processes of planetary ecology are poorly understood. They must be better understood before we can reach an accurate diagnosis of the present condition of our planet,” he says.
“We do not know whether intelligent land management could increase the growth of the topsoil reservoir by four billion tons of carbon per year, the amount needed to stop the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. All we can say for sure is that this is a theoretical possibility and ought to be seriously explored.”
That’s the first heresy – and it’s not the first time he’s made it. For several years, Dyson has argued that the carbon religion is self-indulgent, when there are more urgent, fixable problems to face:
“I’m not saying the warming doesn’t cause problems, obviously it does,” he told students two years ago. “Obviously we should be trying to understand it. I’m saying that the problems are being grossly exaggerated. They take away money and attention from other problems that are much more urgent and important. Poverty, infectious diseases, public education, and public health. Not to mention the preservation of living creatures on land and in the oceans.”
The second heresy is that “warming” might not be such a bad thing.
“If we could choose between the climate of today with a dry Sahara and the climate of 6,000 years ago with a wet Sahara, should we prefer the climate of today? My second heresy answers yes to the first question and no to the second. It says that the warm climate of 6,000 years ago with the wet Sahara is to be preferred, and that increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere may help to bring it back. I am not saying that this heresy is true. I am only saying that it will not do us any harm to think about it.”
The third heresy, you can read for yourselves here. It’s not such a heresy as the other two, but how long those remain heresies is a moot point. Dyson can expect another round of crucifixion with the predictable chorus that he’s not a climate “scientist”.
His contention, that the models aren’t really science when they’re programmed to produce the expected results, will no doubt be overlooked.

That makes you…what…happy?
Now, why don’t you take a deep breath and visit the websites and read the publications of those who study these matters as a discipline, and who are recognized by their peers as leaders in their fields in their respective countries – the National Academies of Science. They exist in most every country and are composed of scientists who have been recognized by their peers through a lengthy and difficult nominaiton and election process.
Perhaps what they have to say is almost as important as what Physicist Dyson, author Michael Crichton and tele-idiot Glenn BEck have to say?

I really don’t have time for this, because as with other fanatics of your ilk, it is impossible to have a rational discussion of these issues. Therefore, I simply approved your comment to show others just how wrong you are and how vile is the agenda that you support. I did this because it is extremely important that people get the real truth about Global Warming. If someone is nice to me, I will be nice to them, but since you started out blasting me with an ad hominem attack, you get the same back from me, but double.
I don’t particularly like Beck either, but the thing to look at is the content of the video, not your personal opinion about the people in it. If Beck says the sun came up this morning I am obliged to agree with him regardless of the fact that I don’t like his views on the war. Therefore, like any rational person, I listen to what is stated and weigh whether or not it has merit based on whether it can be verified or not.
You obviously didn’t bother to read the article. Dyson can crunch statistics and models as fast and as accurately as anyone alive. Just as Bush used fake intelligence to fit his pre-programmed agenda to invade the Middle East, the UN is using inacurrate climate models to fit their agenda for world government. It’s just as soon as you see someone with hard scientific credentials criticizing your Global Warming religion, you attack him as a heretic. He also says that it is the earth itself that is contributing the vast majority CO2 as it always has and that the human contribution is NEGLIGIBLE! The Mirriam- Webster’s dictionary defines “negligible” as “so small or unimportant or of so little consequence as to warrant little or no attention”. Not enough to even warrant our attention! Yet, the entire economic resources of the world are supposed to be marshalled to combat this evil menace. Sounds familiar, like the “War on Terror” scam.

Therefore, Mr Dyson suggests that this whole Global Warming scam is diverting attention away from real issues like water pollution which is not a danger to the climate, but it IS a public health problem globally which also affects marine life. Poverty is caused primarily by central banking interference in the economic lives of nations, including America itself. But rather than allowing people in third world countries to develop, the all-knowing global elite do everything possible to keep them in a backward condition of debt servitude. Infectious diseases are rife in such areas primarily because of this lack of economic growth. Education suffers and public health is a nightmare. But the global warming religion will only make this even more pronounced in the years ahead if it is not exposed as the fraud that it is.
As far as warming goes, very few would disagree that the Earth is warming. I agree and so does Dyson. But the fact of the matter is that warming is not caused by human beings. Why can you people not get that through your heads? Dyson states that this natural warming will cause some problems, but it’s being overblown. In fact, he points out that warming can and will have some benefits that would likely cancel out the negatives. This is what is to be expected since the Earth is a self-stablizing system of feedback loops that regulates it’s own climate systems quite nicely without man’s help, thank god.
Warming will cause more precipitation. More precipitation will do two things: first it will help to hydrate desertified areas like the Sahara. And secondly, it will cause more snowfall in the polar regions bringing back your icecaps and glaciers that you are so worried about. And yes, that will make your polar bears very happy.
I’ve heard the Global Warming propaganda from brainwashed kids a million times and it is really tiresome. The only problem is that it’s all a bunch of lies hyped up by the controlled media and the UN, your loving organization that rapes the little kids in Africa and keeps that continent in a state of turmoil and suffering through it’s interventionist policies.
