No, he was not, the title was to be 2000, Orwell was an ex Fabian, which came to be as an organisation in 1884. There you have the title, 1984! being the 100th anniversary of the Fabian society. Tongue in cheek, for an organisation he grew to detest. The Fabians, after Orwell's wife died took control of all Orwell's critical works until 2025. More to the point Blair pre 97 election was the chairman of the FS. His new cabinet made up of new faces gathered from the FS. Just a few of the many Fabians at Westminster. Brown, his wife Sarah, Prescott,Straw, Milliband brothers, Mandleson.McShane,etc etc. Infiltration into the other two parties has taken place over the last 70 years. The UK is in Big Trouble! USA Fabians infiltrated the White House, Clinton also a Fabian one of many. NYC mayor Bloomberg high profile Fabian. Fabians, a mixture rolled into one of Marxism and Communism! George Bernard Shaw. one of the founders of the FS. Wrote in 1936 of his love of islam, He thought islamic rule in England and Europe would be a good outcome. 70 years on, we see England and European Elites bowing to islam, while the indigenous peoples see mosques everywhere amid islamic dress codes on the streets. where we seem to have two types of laws, one for us one for them.
