Cherrix was diagnosed Hodgkin’s, a form of lymphatic cancer, last summer. He said he got sick, lost his hair and lost his energy after taking three months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. When tests earlier this year showed his cancer was still active, doctors recommended more chemo and radiation, but Abraham chose to go under the care of an alternative cancer clinic in Mexico that uses the Hoxsey method, which includes an organic diet and herbal supplements. Abraham has had several treatments already.
Boy with cancer forced to undergo conventional treatments
Cases like this have been reported a few times. It seems judges are set for the state and the doctors. At least in two early cases, judges agreed with doctors’ and states’ arguement that the conventional treatments are the best for the pediatric cancer patients. A recent case involved a now-13 year-old Texas girl who got lymphoma. She was forced to receive chemotherapy. The custody of the girl was taken away to the State from her parents. And the parents had not been allowed to see their daughter for a few months. After three judges and too much legal fighting, the girl was finally returned to the parents. The doctors involved warned the girl had only 20 percent of chances to survive and might die in two months. In the end, the parents were allowed to seek alternative treatments for their girl. And after more than two months, the girl has been now in her best condition.
