Self-harm surge puts 100 children a week in casualty

Daily Mail | Apr 1st, 2007

The number of children deliberately cutting themselves has also quadrupled since 2000.

Nearly 100 schoolchildren are being hospitalised every week as a result of self-harm due to mental health problems, official figures have revealed.

The statistics show that self-harming incidents among the under-15s have risen by almost a third in the last six years.

Children’s charities blame the increase in cases of cutting, suicide attempts and eating disorders, on factors such as bullying, family breakdown and pressure to eat less to emulate stick-thin celebrities.

Analysis of Accident and Emergency admissions in Britain showed that soaring numbers of children under the age of 15 are attempting suicide.

The most recent figures available revealed that more than 4,500 boys and girls aged 14 or under were treated in hospitals around the UK for self-harm last year – a rise of 1,431 in the last six years.

Doctors found that the most common method of attempting suicide was a drugs overdose.

Nine in ten of the 4,575 youngsters admitted to hospital for self-harming between 2005-6 had taken drugs for “intentional self-poisoning”.

The number of children deliberately cutting themselves has also quadrupled since 2000.

In 2006, 294 children were admitted to hospital after using a sharp object to hurt themselves, compared with just 64 in 2000.

Four police officers tackle 11 year old boy who called schoolmate ‘gay’

Daily Mail | Apr 2, 2007

‘Terrified’: George Rawlinson with his mother Gaynor, who is a magistrate

When two policemen turned up unannounced at Alan Rawlinson’s home asking to speak to his young son, the company director feared something serious had happened.

So he was astounded when the officers detailed 11-year-old George’s apparent crime – calling one of his schoolfriends ‘gay’.

They said primary school pupil, George, was being investigated for a ‘very serious’ homophobic crime after using the comment in an e-mail to a 10-year-old classmate.

But now his parents have hit out at the police, who they accused of being heavy-handed and pandering to political correctness.

“It is completely ridiculous,” Mr Rawlinson said.

“I thought the officers were joking at first, but they told me they considered it a very serious offence.

“The politically correct brigade are taking over. This seemed like a huge waste of resources for something so trivial as a playground spat.”

Cheshire police launched the investigation last month after a complaint from the parents of the 10-year-old younger boy who received George’s e-mail.

They said their son had been called a ‘gay boy’ and were concerned that there was more to the comment than playground banter and that their child was being bullied.

As a consequence, two officers were sent to the boys’ school, Farnworth Primary, in Widnes, Cheshire, to speak to the headteacher who directed them to the Rawlinsons’ home in nearby St Helens, Merseyside.

George told his parents that the comment was in no way meant to be homophobic and that he had simply been using the word gay instead of ‘stupid’.

Mr Rawlinson, 41, who runs his own business, and whose wife, Gaynor, also 41, is a magistrate, said his son was terrified when the police arrived at their home.

He feared he was going to be arrested and locked up in a cell because of it, he added. “I feel very aggrieved about this,” Mr Rawlinson, who has lodged a formal complaint against the police, said.

“We are law-abiding citizens who have paid taxes all our lives.

“I’ve constantly contacted police about break-ins at my business and never get a suitable response.

“George was really upset, he thought he was going to be locked up. This just seemed like a huge waste of resources for something so trivial.”

Inspector Nick Bailey, of Cheshire police, said no further action would be taken against George. However, he said the force had been obliged to record the incident as a crime and that they had dealt with it in a ‘proportionate’ manner.

“The parents of the boy believed it was more sinister that just a schoolyard prank,” Inspector Bailey said.

“We were obliged to record the matter as a crime and took a proportionate and maybe old fashioned view.

“Going to the boy’s house was a reasonable course of action to take. This e-mail message was part of some behaviour which had been on going.

“The use of the word ‘gay’ would imply that it was homophobic, but we would be hard pushed to say it was a homophobic crime.

“This boy has not been treated as an offender.”

This is a latest in a series of incidents where police have been accused of heavy handedness for interviewing or threatening children with prosecution for seemingly trivial crimes.

Last October the Daily Mail revealed how 14-year-old Codie Scott was arrested and thrown in a police cell for almost four hours after she was accused of racism for refusing to sit next to a group of Asian pupils in her class.

Teachers reported the youngster, from Harrop Fold High School in Worsley, Greater Manchester, after she claimed it was impossible for her to get involved in the class ‘discussion’ because only one of the Asian pupils spoke English.

She had her fingerprints and DNA taken but was eventually released without charge.

The incident followed that of a 15-year-old boy from Burnley, Lancashire, who was arrested, thrown in a police cell, hauled before the courts and landed with a criminal record simply for throwing a snowball at a car.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was prosecuted under a little used 160-year-old law last March, and fined £100 in a case which provoked a public outcry.

Mugabe thugs seize teenage white girls in raid on a disco

Daily Mail | Apr 1, 2007

Mugabe ranting, sporting his Hitler mustache

“The government is sending a message to everyone, blacks and whites, that anyone who dares to oppose Mugabe will be a target,” said one opposition party official.

Robert Mugabe has stepped up the pressure on Zimbabwe’s beleaguered white population with a violent police raid on a disco in an affluent suburb of the capital, Harare.

More than 100 teenage girls were dragged off to jail by paramilitary police wielding machine guns and riot batons. Boys who went to their aid were viciously beaten.

About 20 officers raided the Glow club in Borrowdale, whose clientele is mainly white, on the pretext of a crackdown on under-age drinking.

Boys were frogmarched into a wire enclosure set up nearby while girls were hustled on to police buses.

One boy who tried to get on to a police bus to help his girlfriend was dragged off and hit, while a girl asking friends to call her parents was slapped. The girls were released at daybreak.

“The government is sending a message to everyone, blacks and whites, that anyone who dares to oppose Mugabe will be a target,” said one opposition party official.

Mugabe’s government has routinely accused whites, mainly the descendants of colonial-era British settlers, of backing its opponents.

An estimated 30,000 whites remain in Zimbabwe, down from about 270,000 when the country won independence in 1980.

U.S. colonel defends Iran’s right to detain Britons

Press TV | Apr 2007

The anti-war activist Retired Colonel Ann Wright has defended Iran’s detention of 15 British navy personnel as a legitimate right to protect its national sovereignty.

Ms. Wright made the remarks in an interview with FOX news channel’s The Factor, hosted by anti-Iran presenter Bill O’Reilly who demanded she answer yes or no to the question whether she agrees with the UN assertion that Iran’s “capture” of the Britons is an unprovoked act of aggression.

Wright, who taught the Geneva Conventions to troops at Fort Bragg, might just know what she’s talking about, but O’Reilly did not like the direction of her comments and thus over-talked with increasing agitation, accusing her of blaming America.

She replied that there was still some question as to where the sailors had been when they were taken, with O’Reilly dismissing that by saying “it’ll never be proven.”

Wright continued that the main thing now is to not let this incident get ratcheted up, because the dangers of escalation are tremendous.

Not good enough for O’Reilly, he badgered her and demanded again a “yes or no” answer. She replied (essentially) that there is no war between Iran and Great Britain so the prisoner of war rules do not apply.

About the broadcasting of the footages of the detained Britons and whether it was acceptable, she said “we have done the same so we have given up the moral high ground.” O’Reilly immediately misinterpreted her, saying “so this is our fault? This Iranian seizure is our fault?”

Wright replied “No, not at all, not at all, but the treatment of prisoners and detainees…” and O’Reilly cut her mic off, saying he wanted to stop the interview right there.

This happened as she refused to let him silence her by overtalking, twisting her words and accusing her of blaming America for the Iran-Britain situation going on now.

Rosie Calls O’Reilly an “Imbecile,” Murdoch “Big Brother”

TMZ.com | Apr 2, 2007

Rosie O’Donnell spat back at conservative talk-show pugilist Bill O’Reilly after he called for her firing from ABC last week, comparing him to a character in George Orwell’s “1984” who is “a fattish … man of paralyzing stupidity, a mass of imbecile enthusiasms.”

She didn’t reserve her fire for O’Reilly, however. On her blog at Rosie.com, Ro accused O’Reilly of being a totalitarian puppet of News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch, as she put it, in her lower-case verse, “like 1984/molding the facts/2 suit the needs/of big brother rupert.” And Rosie also revealed that when she and co-host Joy Behar made reference on “The View” to a sex scandal involving O’Reilly, they were told they had to can it about O’Reilly or else “bill o would ‘go after’ all the hosts” of their show.

Well, Bill O. did go after Ro at least, as TMZ noted last week, calling Rosie “nutty” and “irresponsible” and suggesting that ABC should oust her from the show. Rosie went all literary-nasty on O’Reilly, comparing him to Parsons, a fellow employee of protagonist Winston Smith, whom Orwell says is “one of those completely unquestioning, devoted drudges on whom, more even than on the thought police, the stability of the Party depended.”

NYPD recruit convicted of trying to hire man to kill girlfriend

WMDT News | Apr 3, 2007

An New York Police Department recruit has been convicted of trying to hire a hit man to kill his ex-girlfriend.

A Long Island jury convicted 22-year-old Kabeer Din yesterday of conspiracy to commit murder. Prosecutors say Din will face at least eight to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced.

Authorities arrested Din last year after he negotiated a three thousand dollar fee with an undercover Suffolk County detective to kill his former girlfriend, Sherry Nohar of Brooklyn.

In a written statement Din said he had been fighting with his girlfriend over her family’s refusal to allow him to go with her to a wedding.

Din was a recruit or probationary officer, for the N-Y-P-D.

Before joining the New York Police Academy last year, Din was a police officer in Baltimore until June 2005.

Bulgaria’s Satanists Demand to Register Sect as Official Religion

Novinite.com | Apr 2, 2007

Aleister Crowley, founder of the Argenteum Astrum Order otherwise known as A.’.A.’.

Bulgaria’s Satanists will demand their sect to be recognized and promulgated as an official religion by the Bulgarian Directorate on Ecclesiastical Matters, Standart newspaper reported Monday.

There are politicians in the sect of Bulgaria’s Satanists, its head Rumen Atanasov announced Saturday in an interview for Darik Radio.

There are more than 100 people, who are members of the Argenteum Astrum Order, politicians among them, Atanasov, who is the head of the order in Bulgaria added.

According to the newly adopted law on religion, the Satanists must register themselves as a religion in court and not in the Directorate on Ecclesiastical Matters.

According to another newspaper, members of the ultra-nationalist party Ataka and of the Union of Democratic Forces also belong to the satanic order.

Modern Satanism was founded by Aleister Crowley, who created a doctrine, whose main principle is “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law”.

Bulgaria’s 666th Absurd

Novinite.com | Apr 2, 2007

On the next solstice we may witness a black mass

Religion became the new wicked trend in Bulgaria on the weekend, as the minister of the Bulgarian branch of the Satanist Argenteum Astrum Order demanded this religious philosophy to become an official religion in the country.

The Satanist minister Rumen Atanasov just needs to register the religion in court, as the Directorate on Ecclesiastical Matters for some twisted reason does not want to deal with registering religions anymore.

It is so easy, you just go to the Sofia City Court, you fill in an application form and there it is. In an interview Atanasov even said there are members of a couple of the Bulgarian parties in the sect. Funny, nobody suspected there are any lovers of the Norwegian black metal in Bulgaria’s parliament. No surprise for me though, as I saw the deputy chairman of the National Assembly, Lyuben Kornezov, attending a concert of the extreme metal band Behemot in Sofia and the band is best known for their satanic lyrics.

But it will be even better for Bulgaria’s Satanists to found their own party now that they already have politicians among them. It will be one of the most eccentric parties and will add a fresh look to the already eccentric political scene.

The only problem they could maybe stir is to scribble with their pocket knives “Nargothrond” on the benches in the parliament and Ave Satanas on the voting cards of the other MPs. The only politician that will not be admitted to become a member will be Tatyana Doncheva, MP of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, as she speaks with a dialect, which will ruin the rituals because she cannot pronounce the words of the incantations correctly.

But if Satanism becomes an official religion in Bulgaria, on the next solstice we may witness a black mass, the ritual Satanists do for desecrating the symbol of Christianity – the crucifix.
