Alzheimer’s cases may quadruple by 2050

WASHINGTON – More than 26 million people worldwide have Alzheimer’s disease, and a new forecast says the number will quadruple by 2050. At that rate, one in 85 people will have the brain-destroying disease in 40 years, researchers from Johns Hopkins University conclude.

The new estimates, being presented Sunday at an Alzheimer’s Association conference in Washington, are not very different from previous projections of the looming global dementia epidemic with the graying of the world’s population.

But they serve as a sobering reminder of the toll to come if scientists cannot find better ways to battle Alzheimer’s and protect aging brains.

“If we can make even modest advances in preventing Alzheimer’s disease, or delay its progression, we could have a huge global public health impact,” said Johns Hopkins public health specialist Ron Brookmeyer, who led the new study.

The biggest jump is projected for densely populated Asia, home of almost half of today’s Alzheimer’s cases, 12.6 million. By 2050, Asia will have 62.8 million of the world’s 106 million Alzheimer’s patients, the study projects.

A recent U.S. study estimated that this nation’s Alzheimer’s toll will reach 16 million by 2050, compared with more than 5 million today. The new estimate is significantly lower, suggesting only 3.1 million North American cases today and 8.8 million by 2050.

Among the estimates for other regions are:

_Africa, 1.3 million today and 6.3 million in 2050.

_Europe, 7.2 million and 16.5 million.

_Latin America and the Caribbean, 2 million and 10.8 million.

_Oceania, 200,00 and 800,000.

The project was funded by Elan Pharmaceuticals and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

In any cursory look at supermarket shelves, if you read the labels, you will find that aspartame seems to be in just about every artificial chemical-laden processed food and drink on the market, though it is being replaced with an equally suspect sucralose. Didn’t anyone ever wonder why human beings should be consuming artificial “foods” and artificial drinks? Heck, ask the Chinese who widely use melamine and anti-freeze in products for human consumption. Many believe rightly that the neurotoxin aspartame, introduced into the food supply by none other than Donald Rumsfeld, is largely responsible for the massive epidemic of Alzheimers. This is not a natural phenomenon. It is the result of poisoning the human body. Anyone who tells you different is a stinkin liar!

Local Washington DC Fox News affiliate reports on Aspartame… It will never be shown by the national networks because it is too truthful. My only complaint is that they leave out Donald Rumsfeld’s pivotal role in aspartame’s approval and marketing to the public.

Aspartame: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You
Aspartame is, by far, the most dangerous substance on the market that is added to foods. Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. According to researchers and physicians studying the adverse effects of aspartame, the following chronic illnesses can be triggered or worsened by ingesting of aspartame:(2) Brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, parkinson’s disease, alzheimer’s, mental retardation, lymphoma, birth defects, fibromyalgia, and diabetes.

The artificial sweetener, aspartame, is the bedrock of the diet industry. Found in everything from fizzy drinks to vitamin pills and marketed under a variety of different names, it is difficult to detect and even harder to avoid. But how safe is it? Does it really cause brain tumours, blindness and other serious illnesses? This shocking documentary investigates how the FDA came to approve such a potentially dangerous product.

  2. Natural does not mean good or healthy. Vitamin D is a deadly poison. Can’t argue against aspartame because it is manufactured. But I have to wonder did you even read what was written in the first section? More old people means more people with alzheimer’s disease. I’m still waiting for someone to offer anything other than wild conjecture linking aspartame to alzheimer’s.

  3. Dan,

“Natural does not mean good or healthy”.?! What and astounding claim. According to you then, the opposite must be true, “Artificial [as in aspartame] means good and healthy”.

Then you drag out vitamin D as if it has anything whatsoever to do with the subject at hand. It does not and most people know not to over-do vitamins. In reality though, even the medical establishment recognizes the therapeutic uses of sometimes heavy vitamin dosing (including vitamin D up to 100,000 units) for a whole range of illnesses.

I sure hope to hell you aren’t in the medical field, but from the sound of it, you probably are. Either that, or you are in the aspartame production field because nobody would bother to try to debunk neurotoxic effects of aspartame unless they had a vested interest in it.
