Shock braclets would allow airline personnel to control passengers

Bad, Bad Idea: The Anti-Hijacking Safety Bracelet

Wired | Apr 18, 2008

By Dave Demerjian

This is the worst air travel security idea I’ve heard of in a long time.

A Canadian company called Lamperd Less Lethal is promoting the EMD Safety Bracelet. It’s equipped with electro muscular disruption technology, which effectively short-circuits the central nervous system. Zap someone and they’ll be completely immobile for several minutes.

The technology isn’t new — cops and security guards have been using it for years in tasers. What’s new is the marketing approach. Lamperd is hawking the EMD bracelet as the ideal tool for fighting terrorists intent on taking over an airplane.

And they’re doing so with a blatantly exploitive promotional video.

Airline Security – EMD Safety Bracelet

You can watch the five minute video, which has gotten more than 33,000 hits at YouTube, but I’ll spare you the trouble by recapping its most egregious claims.

• The video starts with unnecessary footage of 9/11, mugshots of terrorists and a deep-voiced, somber narrator explaining that current airport security equipment doesn’t work. Why? Because it’s operated by TSA employees who make minimum wage — and you know what that means.

• The narrator goes on to say that the next line of defense, armed Federal Air Marshals, also is no good because their aim is so bad that they’ll blow a hole in the fuselage before they actually hit a hijacker.

• That leaves no choice but to equip pilots and cabin crew with EMD safety bracelets, which passengers would have to put on before boarding. When threatened by a highjacker, a flight attendant would transmit an EMD pulse at the terrorist, reducing him to a trembling mass of Jello. The terrorist gets tied up, the plane lands safely and the world is a better place.

Beyond preying on people’s fears and insulting our intelligence, Lamperd is selling a product that’s a horrible idea in the first place. Do you really want those bracelets on your flight? If hijackers get their hands the transmitter, they’ll zap anyone standing in their way. Who’s to say that in the chaos of an emergency a crew member will have time to identify the threat, activate the correct bracelet and fire the EMD pulse before the terrorist has control of the plane?
And then there’s the possibility of random craziness. What if a flight attendant loses her cookies and zaps a passenger who wants to keep the whole can of CranApple juice? What about drunk passengers? Do you want the lush in 36D getting his hands on what is essentially a bracelet-mounted stun gun?

Lamperd claims on their website that the company is doing brisk business, so brisk that they’ll hire back all their laid-off employees. But I don’t think it’s the safety bracelet that’s flying off the shelves — the airlines I spoke to claim to have never heard of the product, and Ann Davis of the TSA says the agency has no plans to deploy the bracelets. The company’s CEO Barry Lamperd didn’t want to talk the first time I called and wasn’t available the second time.

Lamperd Less Lethal’s tagline is “Keeping the Situation Under Control.” I think “Exploiting People’s Fear and Making a Bad Situation Worse” might be more appropriate.

Masons rush to rescue Ron Paul  from the ‘dreaded evil Freemason smear’ political disease

I know this is a taboo subject among Ron Paul supporters, of which I was one myself in the very beginning of his presidential campaign. And even if it is proven beyond any doubt that he is a freemason, many will just put it aside and pretend it doesn’t matter “because he is such a decent and honest man” etc. But many others are very curious to know what RP’s status is regarding Freemasonry because it does matter, and I fully intend to find out myself. Therefore, it is high time we started talking openly about it and try to ascertain the truth, one way or another.

I just happened to stumble across this comment over at the Daily Paul yesterday, and thought that I should share it with whoever is interested in knowing whether or not Ron Paul is a Freemason.

This does not prove anything in that regard, however it makes the probability that he is a Freemason very much higher since Eastern Star members are generally married to Freemason husbands, Rainbow girls are generally children of masons and because Ron Paul’s father was also a mason. And in addition, according to the comment, he “respects the organization”, which is wholly uncharacteristic of anyone who is supposedly fighting against the masonically-inspired New World Order. Ron Paul is also an unofficial member of the John Birch Society, which was founded by masons, funded by Nelson Rockefeller and run by Jesuit-trained Knights of Malta. In other words, the JBS is a gatekeeper organization, designed to control the opposition and make sure nothing substantial is ever done to impede the New World Order system which just keeps on rolling over humanity. How about the Jahbulon Bullshit Society for a more appropriate name?

Here is the comment in full rebutting an anti-masonic posting:

Ron Paul and Freemasonry

On April 20th, 2008 the oak says:

Quit using Ron Paul as a forum for your bigotted beliefs. You don’t know anything about him or his ideals obviously. You also know nothing about the Freemason or Eastern Star organizations.

1. Ron Paul’s father was a Freemason and Dr. Paul has said himself many times that he respects the organization and has been to many of the open meetings in his district. I should know, I was his scheduler for ten years.

2. His wife, Carol is a member of the Velasco Order of the Eastern Star and maintains her membership in the Freeport area lodge.

3. Their daughters, Lori and Joy, were both Rainbow girls, another organization associated with Freemasonry.

Your hatefilled retoric regarding a benevolent, Biblically based organization is likened to those who have a fear of the unknown. It spawns lies and hate toward those who are innocent and have done good for others. Just try taking your child to the Shriner’s burn or crippled childrens hospital. They will take care of your child regardless of your ignorance and will do it free of charge. How many people has your paranoia helped?

Unfortunately, the link now says “access denied” for whatever reason. Maybe you can explain to me why the link no longer works. I even tried to find the page again through a Google search (how I found it originally) and nothing. Poof! Gone. No trace. Not even a Google cache available. I wonder why? Hmmm….

If anyone knows the actual identity of this “scheduler” with the handle of “Liberty Oak Ranch”, please share it here with us to help confirm the validity of the comment.

I looked up the Eastern Star chapter being referred to if anyone wants to try and research this further:

Velasco Chapter No. 220 (District 4)

Then, one might assume that Ron Paul frequently goes (as the scheduler claims) to meetings at a masonic lodge in the same area, so I found this lodge listed with the Grand Lodge of Texas website which it would seem is a very likely candidate for being one of those lodges he attends:

Velasco Masonic Lodge #757

As I gather more information on what I am 90% sure is a fact, that Ron Paul is a high Freemason of the 33rd degree or above, who knows the masonic agenda and yet keeps it all a secret from his supporters (as Dick Cheney kept his CFR membership a secret from his constituents in Wyoming), I will immediately pass it on to you the public who have a right to know the truth.

PS: Keep an eye on this post as I believe I will be updating it with new information over the next few weeks and months. If you have something definitive regarding Ron Paul’s membership in any secret society, please post a comment with specifics.

Built in the Flemish Romanesque style by architects Smithmeyer and Pelz, the building contains the Office of the President, John J. DeGioia; Georgetown’s Department of Classics; the Kennedy Institute of Ethics; and the National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature. [EUGENICS!]

Notable rooms in Healy include Riggs Library, one of the few extant cast iron libraries in the nation; the Philodemic Room, the meeting room for the Philodemic Society, one of the oldest collegiate debating clubs in the nation; the grand Hall of Cardinals; the historic Constitution Room; and the Carroll Parlor, which houses several notable pieces from the university’s art collection.

Perhaps the grandest space in the building is Gaston Hall, Georgetown’s “Jewel in the Crown”, the 750-seat auditorium which has played host to multitudes of world leaders and which seems perpetually to be the backdrop of C-SPAN. The Conservative Caucus, or TCC, is an American public policy organization and lobbying group emphasizing grassroots citizen activism and headquartered in Vienna, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. It was founded in 1974 by Howard Phillips, who continues to lead it today. Most of the organization’s $3.8 million budget comes from the efforts of New Right fundraising gurus Richard Viguerie and Bruce Eberle. The organization produces a weekly conservative television program, Conservative Roundtable, which is hosted by Mr. Phillips. Howard Phillips is also President of The Conservative Caucus Research, Analysis and Education Foundation (TCCF), a 501(c)3 tax deductible organization.

Richard Art Viguerie (born September 23, 1933 in Golden Acres near Houston, Texas, USA)  is a conservative figure and writer on American politics. He is the current chairman of ConservativeHQ.com. Viguerie has been dubbed the “funding father” of modern conservative strategy in the United States.  Viguerie worked for the Christian evangelist Billy James Hargis in his early career.

In 1977, Viguerie worked on a project to raise money for Sun Myung Moon’s Children’s Relief Fund, which reportedly only received 6.3% of the $1,508,256 raised. $920,000 went to Viguerie according to New York State charity auditors.

Viguerie has long been associated with conservative activist Howard Phillips through creation of the Moral Majority in 1979.

In January 2008, Viguerie launched http://www.ultimateronpaul.com , a website designed to promote the 2008 presidential candidacy of U.S. Congressman Ron Paul, whom Viguerie described as “truly a principled conservative in the grand tradition of Robert Taft, Barry Goldwater, and Ronald Reagan” and who “has differentiated himself from all the other candidates, whose allegiance is to Big Government Republicanism.”

Young Americans for Freedom

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

YAF faced opposition from groups like the American Nazi Party because of the presence of Jews in the organization and its close relationship with Marvin Liebman. Most members also kept their distance from segregationists such as George Wallace and conspiracy theorists such as the John Birch Society.

However, YAF did honor staunch segregationist and Senator from South Carolina Strom Thurmond with its Freedom Award in 1962.  Some of its members were also behind the ‘Welcome Mr. Kennedy to Dallas’ ad placed in the Dallas Morning News (coincidentally on the morning of JFK’s assassination), which implied Kennedy was Communist and accused him of ignoring the constitution.

Campus activism, 1985-1990

As YAF grew older, most of the original members went on to other things, while younger members dominated YAF. During this era, a new generation of liberal and radical activism was growing on college campuses, and members began focusing on opposing these movements. This growth was strongest in California, where members staged protests in favor of aid to the Nicaraguan Contras

YAF’s indirect influence is felt through the number of conservative political figures who began their careers as members in college.

These alumni include former national chairman and former U.S. Representative Robert Bauman; former California chairman and former California legislator Pat Nolan; U.S. Representative Dana Rohrabacher; former Vice President Dan Quayle; Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Chris Cox; U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo, a 2008 presidential candidate; American Conservative Union Chairman David Keene and a great number of other national and state politicians.

Howard Phillips (Jewish politician) [note: Goldwater Republicanism who was also Jewish and a Mason)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Howard Phillips (born February 6, 1941) has served as the Chairman of The Conservative Caucus, a conservative public policy advocacy group, since 1974.

Jewish by birth, Phillips converted to evangelical Christianity in adulthood and has been associated with Christian Reconstructionism.

Phillips left the United States Republican Party in 1974 after some two decades of service to the GOP as precinct worker, election warden, campaign manager, Congressional aide, Boston Republican Chairman, and assistant to the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. In 1978 Phillips finished third in the Democratic primary for the US Senate in Massachusetts.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Phillips coordinated efforts to build private sector support for anti-Communist “freedom fighters” in Central America and Southern Africa. He played an instrumental role in the leadership of the New Right, as well as in the founding of the religious right in 1977.

New Right – United States

In the United States, the New Right refers to a conservative political movement that coalesced through grassroots organizing in the years preceding the 1964 presidential campaign of Barry Goldwater. The Goldwater campaign, though failing to unseat incumbent President Lyndon B. Johnson, galvanized the formation of a new political movement. In elite think-tanks and local community organizations alike, new policies, marketing strategies, and electoral strategies were crafted over the succeeding decades to promote strongly conservative policies. The New Right got a policy approach and electoral apparatus that brought Ronald Reagan into the White House in the 1980 presidential election. The American New Right is distinct from and opposed to the more moderate tradition of the so-called Rockefeller Republicans. The New Right also differs from the Old Right on issues concerning foreign policy with the New Right being opposed to the non-interventionism of the Old Right. Though mostly ignored by scholars until the late 1980s, the formation of the New Right is now one of the fastest-growing areas of historical research.

Honoring Pope John Paul II

by Rep. Ron Paul, MD

Before the US House of Representatives, April 6, 2005.

Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to join my colleagues in paying tribute to the life and legacy of Pope John Paul II. Pope John Paul II was one of the great religious leaders of modern times, and an eloquent champion of human freedom and dignity. Unlike all-too-many misguided religious leaders, the Pope understood that liberty, both personal and economic, is a necessary condition for the flourishing of human virtue.

Theology, Not Politics

by Rep. Ron Paul, MD

Members of Congress from both political parties outdid themselves last week in heaping praise upon Pope John Paul II in the wake of his passing. Many spoke at length on the floor of the House of Representatives, and some even flew to Rome for his funeral.

I’m happy to witness so many politicians honoring a great man of God and peace. The problem, however, is that so few of them honored him during his lifetime by their actions as legislators. In fact, most members of Congress support policies that are totally at odds with Catholic teachings.

Both conservatives and liberals cannot understand that the Pope’s pronouncements were theological, not political. He was one of the few humans on earth who could not be bullied or threatened by any government.

He was a man of God, not a man of the state. He was not a policy maker, but rather a steward of long-established Catholic doctrine. His mission was to save souls, not serve the political agendas of any nation, party, or politician.

Ron “Temporal Coadjutor” Paul is a fake

I call Ron Paul a fake and a traitor because of his compromising and cowardly stand with regard to the federal government. Aaron Rousso’s interview of him in From Freedom to Fascism furthers this conclusion. Instead of resigning as a Congressman over the Federal Reserve Fraud, the theft of our gold and silver coins and the Income Tax Fraud, he still files his tax returns and votes for Congress to accept money from the Federal Reserve at the beginning of every fiscal year.

Ron Paul should resign from Congress and publicly state that the State of Texas is the slave of the Federal Reserve System—and thus the Papacy. He should advocate secession of the State of Texas and work diligently to that end.

He stands by and watches the alien Mexican invaders swarm into Texas thus driving the Whites to the extreme of right wing fascism beginning with the “Minutemen.” If Ron Paul was really an enemy of the system he purports to resists he would have been silenced or murdered years ago—like Senator Paul Wellstone.

No, Ron Paul is one of them.

I asked him about Ron Paul. I suggested Ron Paul was on the globalist’s team. He agreed with me — further adding, “they deliver us our hereos.” I respect that because he said it over RBN’s network… the same network that has a contract amongst it’s hosts (just like Alex Jones’ GCN Network) that says you can’t say bad things about other hosts. And since it’s obvious both RCN and GCN networks force their hosts to say great things about Ron Paul, I’m impressed.

German artist wants to put dying people on display in an art gallery

Death: art’s final taboo

While artists have always explored aspects of mortality, there has been a recent surge in exhibitions – from starving dogs to photographs of terminally ill people – that dare to examine the subject as never before. Andrew Johnson reports

Independent | Apr 20, 2008

It was, perhaps, only a matter of time before contemporary art’s obsession with death led to its natural conclusion: an exhibit featuring the act of dying.

The German artist Gregor Schneider is looking for volunteers who are willing to die in an art gallery for his latest work, according to the Art Newspaper. And in Nicaragua, a Costa Rican artist has created a storm of hostility by apparently tying up a dog in a gallery and leaving it to starve to death as a work of art. Schneider, who is known for his macabre sculptures of dark, foreboding houses and bodies lying prone with plastic bags on their heads, and who has represented Germany at the Venice Biennale, said: “I want to display a person dying naturally in the piece or somebody who has just died. My aim is to show the beauty of death. I am confident we will find people to take part.”

The modern public’s appetite for real death can be seen in the runaway success of Günther von Hagens’s Body World’s exhibition – in which real cadavers are preserved in varying states of dissection and which has been seen by 25 million people globally. It is currently showing in Manchester where it has already pulled in 100,000 visitors since February.

At the Wellcome Collection in London there is currently a moving display of portraits of ordinary people pictured before and after death by the German photographers Walter Schels and Beate Lakotta.

Meanwhile, animal rights activists have been in uproar over the fate of Natividad, a street dog captured by the artist Guillermo Vargas, otherwise known as Habacuc. Natividad was allegedly tied to a piece of string in a Nicaraguan gallery without food or water and left to starve to death late last year in a work called Eres lo que lees (You are what you read). The artist said the work was a comment on the thousands of street dogs that starve to death in Central America each year, but the US animal rights group the Humane Society said, as far as it could establish, the animal was fed and watered, and displayed for just three hours before it escaped.

Artists’ interest in mortality can be seen in work from Hans Holbein’s 16th-century The Ambassadors, in which a skewed skull comments on the vanity of the sitters, to Damien Hirst’s recent diamond encrusted skull.

The art critic Brian Sewell said: “Schneider’s idea is part of a new examination of death, following on from Günther von Hagens, which has popularised the macabre and bizarre. There is no doubt that the photographs at the Wellcome are based on sculpture, however. People say that death is the last taboo, and we talk about it in euphemism. It has very long roots in art, but is not as celebrated as the examination of beauty or youth.”

And writing this week about Schneider’s planned art work, Sewell wrote: “Can such a disquieting thing be art? Should it, indeed, be done in a civilised society? Perhaps so.”

Cynicism and apathy permeate British socialist economic system

Britain is becoming a ‘why bother country’

Telegraph | Apr 21, 2008

By Paul Stokes

Britain is suffering from a “why bother” economy because its benefits culture, high taxes and poor education system leave many people lacking the motivation or capability to succeed, according to a report.

The cost to the economy of low social mobility is £32 billion a year, or £1,300 to the average family, claims Reform, the independent think tank.

This comes despite higher spending on benefits and public services that have served only to reinforce privilege, it says.

Child poverty has risen, with the number of children classified as low income rising from 2.4 million to three million.

State schools stand accused of a “dismal” record when it comes to educating the poorest in society, with school-leavers from poor backgrounds doing only half as well as average 16-year-olds.

There is also a geographical division, with three times the number of people in parts of northern England claiming disability benefits than in the South East.

Prof Nick Bosanquet, the report’s lead author, said: “We need an agenda to get the roadblocks to social mobility down… Every person failed by the education system and held back by the tax and benefits system means that the economy cannot fulfil its potential.”

The report concludes: “Public services are biased towards the affluent, and means-tested benefits and higher tax have reduced individuals’ incentives to increase their incomes. The unintended consequence has been a ‘why bother’ economy in which a significant minority do not have the capability or motivation to succeed.”

Reform is asking for a co-ordinated approach to policy that would encourage individuals, with less government intervention and lower taxation.

“Who do you think has what it takes?” the narrator asks in an ad depicting historical images of crises that presidents have had to deal with: Osama bin Laden, headlines about the stock market crash of 1929, long gas lines from the 1970s oil-shocks, images of the Cold War, Hurricane Katrina and soldiers. It features the first image of Osama bin Laden to be used in a TV ad this political season.

“It’s the toughest job in the world,” says the ad’s narrator. “You need to be ready for anything — especially now, with two wars, oil prices skyrocketing and an economy in crisis.”

The ad quotes President Harry Truman’s famous line: “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,” — to cast Obama as complaining about last week’s ABC News presidential debate.

Responding to the ad, Obama spokesman Bill Burton accused the New York senator of engaging in scare tactics.

Clinton on an Iran Attack: ‘Obliterate Them’

Clinton further displayed tough talk in an interview airing on “Good Morning America” Tuesday. ABC News’ Chris Cuomo asked Clinton what she would do if Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons.

“I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran,” Clinton said. “In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.”

Obama, for his part, has to be worried about obliterating his repeated promise of a “new kind of politics.” But he told ABC News’ Robin Roberts on “Good Morning America” his attacks are necessary.

“You’ve always got to measure if somebody throws an elbow at you, and after three or four times of gettin’ elbows in the ribs, you know, at what point do you sort of say, ‘OK, you know, we, we, we’ve gotta put a stop to that’?” Obama said.

“Three Amigos summit” gets under way amid tight security, protests

“They (The leaders) are doing this without consulting with the American people,” Thomas Anderson, a protester from Texas, told Xinhua, saying that they were calling for transparency from the meeting.

Anderson accused the leaders at the summit of ignoring the concerns of ordinary people and engaging in secrete discussions that violate the U.S. constitution and endanger the sovereignty of the United States.

NEW ORLEANS, THE UNITED STATES, April 21 (Xinhua) — The fourth annual summit of leaders of the United States, Canada and Mexico, dubbed the “Three Amigos summit,” got underway Monday in New Orleans, the city still marred by the 2005 Hurricane Katrina, amid tight security and sporadic protests.

During the two-day event, U.S. President George W. Bush will confer with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in promoting integrated trade and security arrangements under the framework of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP).

With street closures and traffic restrictions, security was tightest around in the Central Business District, where the North American leaders will engage in most of their summit-related activities.

But the morning scene inside the Gallier Hall, a historic building which used to serve as New Orleans’ city hall, was messy as workers were still in last-minute preparations for Bush’s arrival later in the day for a meeting with business executives.

Local police and secret service agents lined the streets surrounding the luxury Windsor-Court Hotel, where the three leaders will be staying during the summit, effectively blocking traffic and authorized personnel from getting too close.

Prior to the leaders’ arrival, under the watch of police officers, a small number of protesters gathered in front of the hotel, chanting anti-summit slogans and waving placards that read: “No North American Union”, “U.S. citizens say no to tyranny,” etc.

Jim Stachowiak, a New Orleans native who operates an independent on-line radio station, said that through their protests, they wanted the American people to know that the “real enemies” are not in Iraq, but “in Washington D.C..”

“We are pleading, begging them to listen to the American people,” Stachowiak said.

The protesters demonstrated for several hours outside the hotel and later left peacefully in the afternoon. But elsewhere in the business district, small groups of demonstrators could still be seen sporadically.

Some activists said they expected protests of larger scale to take place on Tuesday when Bush, Harper and Calderon are due to have a more formal meeting before wrapping up the summit.

Children’s hospital launches sex change for kids program

‘This isn’t conjecture, it’s happening now’

WorldNetDaily | Apr 19, 2008

By Bob Unruh

A doctor at the renowned Children’s Hospital Boston has launched a new program to drug children to delay puberty so they can decide whether they want a male or a female body, according to a report today in the Boston Globe.

Pediatric endocrinologist Norman Spack, 64, says he started the Gender Management Service Clinic because he found himself encountering 20-somethings who were “transgendered” and in good shape socially, “but they were having trouble getting their physique to conform to their identity.

“I knew the 20-somethings could have better chances of passing if they were treated earlier,” he said.

“We don’t think that demonic is too strong a word to describe this,” said a statement from the pro-family Mass Resistance organization. “It brings us thoughts of the Nazi doctors who thought they were doing good things.”

WND has reported previously on some of the controversies prompted by the belief that a man can be born in a woman’s body, or vice versa, including in Montgomery County, Md., where county officials have adopted a law that precludes those who provide public accommodations from discriminating based on that “gender identity.”

Voters there have petitioned to have a vote on that law because they fear men who “decide” they are female walking into women’s restrooms and locker rooms.

“Is this our future?” asked Mass Resistance in a commentary. “Dr. Norman Spack runs a clinic for young children who’ve ‘decided’ they are transgendered. Among other things, the clinic administers powerful hormones to delay (or even stop) puberty in order that the children more easily undergo operations that mutilate their bodies to ‘change’ them to the opposite sex.”

“This is going on at the world-renowned Children’s Hospital in Boston – not some backwater clinic. This is the elite of the medical profession,” the organization said.

In a question-and-answer session with Globe columnist Pagan Kennedy, she starts the apologetic for doing surgery on children by saying, “Little boys sob unless they’re allowed to wear dresses. The girls want to be called Luke, Ted, or James.”

“Until recently, children with cross-gender feelings rarely received modern medical care – and certainly not hormone shots. After all, who would allow a child to redesign his or her body?” she asks.

But Spack, she wrote, has started a clinic that “is one of the few in the world to give children treatments that change their bodies.”

She reports he uses drugs to delay puberty, “granting them a few more years before they develop bodies that are decidedly male or female.”

Spack tells the interviewer he’s seen “preadolescents” who have been dressing in underwear of the opposite sex “for years.”

“The puberty-blocking drugs work best at the beginning of the pubital process, typically age 10 to 12 for a girl and 12 to 14 for a boy,” he said. He’s based some of his work on a Dutch model for sex-change, and said the recommendations there are age 16 for hormones that forever change a child’s body.

But “for others,” he wrote, “you lose opportunities if you wait. [One of my patients, a] transgendered girl from the UK, was destined to be a 6-foot-4 male. With treatment, she’s going to end up 5-foot-10.”

He said such treatments not only change the physical characteristics of the growing children, but also could leave them sterile for life.

“You have to explain to the patients that if they go ahead, they may not be able to have children. … But if you don’t start treatment, they will always have trouble fitting in,” he said.

“This isn’t conjecture,” Mass Resistance’ commentary said. “It’s happening now. And ‘transgenderism’ is being promoted to kids by homosexual/transgender activists in the public schools.”

Children as young as 12 already have been given the treatment.

Meanwhile, LifeSiteNews has reported that Spack previously acknowledged that only about 20 percent of children who claim to have a confusion over their gender hold those feelings in adulthood.

The hospital itself calls the program “unique in the Western hemisphere.”

“This will be the first major program in the country that … [is] also welcoming young people who appear to be transgendered and are considering medical protocols that might help them,” Spack said.

Cheney’s Halliburton Profits Rise As Oil Climbs to Record Highs

Bloomberg | Apr 21, 2008

By Jim Kennett

April 21 (Bloomberg) — Halliburton Co., the world’s second-largest oilfield contractor, said profit rose 5.8 percent after crude topped $100 a barrel, prompting producers to increase spending on Middle East and Latin American projects.

First-quarter net income climbed to $584 million, or 64 cents a share, from $552 million, or 54 cents, a year earlier, the Houston-based company said today in a statement.

The number of drilling rigs active outside North America rose 6.5 percent as New York oil futures traded 68 percent higher than a year earlier. Revenue jumped 18 percent to $4.03 billion as sales gains outside North America made up for pricing pressures in the U.S., Halliburton said.

“The story with Halliburton is international, and the international story is supported by sharply higher oil prices,” said Gene Pisasale, who helps oversee $25 billion in assets, including about 682,000 Halliburton shares, at PNC Capital Advisors in Baltimore. “That bodes well for international exploration, much of which is oil-oriented.”

Competition from rival oilfield contractors is affecting the prices Halliburton can charge on long-term projects in such markets as the Middle East and West Africa, Chief Executive Officer David Lesar told investors on a conference call. Losing a bid can mean the company is out of business in that region for a number of years, he said.

Margin Concerns

Those comments and concern over rising diesel costs, which are narrowing profit margins on some well services, held back Halliburton’s shares today, said Mark Urness, an analyst at Calyon Securities USA Inc. in New York.

Halliburton rose 3 cents to $47.46 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. All but five companies in the 15- member Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index had bigger gains. Schlumberger Ltd., the biggest oilfield contractor, climbed 5 percent.

Halliburton’s per-share profit matched the average of 10 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Earnings from the company’s largest division, which helps clients maximize production from established fields, rose 11 percent.

Demand strength in the Middle East and Latin America made up for a 2 percent decline in North American business and a “relatively flat” environment in Europe, Africa and the former Soviet Union, Halliburton said.

`Next Leg Up’

Lesar, 54, said more demand growth is coming. “The fundamentals of the world oil and gas market are projecting that the next leg up in the extended cycle is near,” he said in the statement.

Schlumberger, based in Houston and Paris, on April 18 reported a 13 percent gain in first-quarter net income. Baker Hughes Inc., the No. 3 oilfield-services company, is scheduled to report its results tomorrow.

Halliburton’s profit from drilling and evaluation services climbed 6.1 percent. The segment includes drill-bits, drilling fluids and directional drilling, which allows a customer to change the direction of a well to target a reservoir.

Worldwide, the number of active rigs rose 2.4 percent from a year earlier, with most of the gains occurring in South America and the Eastern Hemisphere, according to a count by Baker Hughes. North American drilling activity climbed 1.4 percent, driven by a 2.1 percent increase in the U.S.

International Expansion

Halliburton is adding research and training centers from Russia to Singapore as it diversifies away from North America, which accounted for 47 percent of revenue last year. U.S. and Canadian business is dominated by regional natural-gas markets, where weather can cause prices to surge or plummet.

Lesar splits his time between the U.S. and Halliburton’s regional corporate headquarters in Dubai. The Eastern Hemisphere accounted for 41 percent of Halliburton’s first-quarter revenue. Lesar has said he’d like the region ultimately to account for half of sales.

Halliburton derived 54 percent of its profit from North America in the first quarter, down from 58 percent a year earlier. Latin American operations had a 45 percent increase in earnings. Brazil’s recent deepwater discoveries, fields called Tupi and Carioca, will fuel increased spending by oil companies, PNC’s Pisasale said.

“With the recent developments in Brazil, you’re going to see a lot more activity down there,” he said. “The Tupi and the Carioca discoveries, which are particularly huge, multibillion-barrel fields, bode well for service companies like Halliburton and Schlumberger.”

State Oil Companies

Overseas work is being driven by government-owned oil companies that increasingly hire Halliburton and other services providers to do work previously done by international oil companies like Exxon Mobil Corp. Service companies work under contracts, while oil companies take a stake in the field being developed.

Halliburton’s work with state oil companies includes a three-year contract to drill wells at Saudi Arabia’s massive Khurais project and a three-year deal with Mexico awarded in January. Today, the company announced a contract for the offshore portion of Saudi Arabia’s Manifa oil project.

Halliburton is the largest oilfield contractor in North America and the largest provider of so-called pressure pumping, which injects water or sand into rock formations to make gas flow more easily.

Increased competition cut into pricing for pressure pumping, or fracturing as it is sometimes called, in the past two quarters, according to Halliburton.
